What types of garage doors do you install?

We help you choose a door that suits the house, the way you use the garage and your budget. Options include:

  • Insulated garage doors
  • Non-insulated steel doors
  • Modern garage door styles
  • Carriage house garage doors
  • Custom garage door options
  • Full garage door replacements
  • Residential and commercial installations

Is an insulated garage door worth it?

For an attached garage, or one you use as a gym, workshop or office, usually yes. An insulated door slows heat moving in and out, and its layered build makes it quieter and stiffer than a single-layer door.

For a detached garage used only for storage, a non-insulated steel door is often the sensible choice, and we will tell you so.

Do you install the opener with the new door?

We can reconnect your existing opener if it is in good shape, has working safety sensors and is rated for the weight of the new door, or install a new one at the same visit.

See garage door openers for the drive types and smart options.

Why does every new door get new springs?

Springs are sized to the weight of a specific door. Reusing old springs on a new door leaves it out of balance, strains the opener and shortens spring life.

That is why each installation includes a spring system sized to the new door, along with new cables and rollers.

Signs it's time for a new garage door

A repair is not always the best use of your money. These point toward replacement.

  • Cracked, split or rotting sections

Once sections lose their stiffness, patches do not last and the flexing wears out hinges, rollers and the opener.

  • Impact damage

A dented or bent section can be hard to replace on an older door once matching sections are no longer made.

  • Constant repairs

When springs, cables, rollers and sections keep failing one after another, a new door can cost less over time.

  • A hot or cold garage

A single-layer door does little to hold back heat or cold, which you feel in rooms next to an attached garage.

  • Missing modern safety features

Older doors and openers may lack photo-eye sensors and pinch-resistant section joints.

  • Tired curb appeal

The garage door covers a large part of the front of many homes, so a new one changes the whole look.

Do you need a new door, or just a repair?

Plenty of the doors we are asked to replace only need a part, and we will tell you plainly.

A repair is usually enough when

  • A spring, cable, roller or the opener has failed
  • The sections are solid and the door seals well
  • You are happy with the look and insulation of the door

A new door is usually the better choice when

  • Sections are cracked, rotted or badly dented
  • Repairs keep coming back
  • You want better insulation, quieter operation or a new style
  • Replacement parts for your door are hard to find

What happens on installation day?

  1. 1

    Measure and confirm

Width, height, headroom and side room are measured on site before the door is ordered.

  2. 2

    Remove the old door safely

Spring tension is released under control, then the old door, track and hardware come out.

  3. 3

Set the track and stack the sections

Track is set plumb to the opening and each section is leveled so the door seals evenly at the floor.

  4. 4

Fit matched springs, cables and rollers

The spring system is sized to the actual weight of the new door.

  5. 5

    Connect, balance and test

The opener is connected or installed, limits are set, the safety reversal is checked and the balance is tested by hand.

What affects the cost of a new garage door?

Each door is quoted after the opening is measured. The main cost factors are:

Size of the opening

Single, double and custom sizes need different doors and hardware.

Construction and insulation

Non-insulated steel and the different insulated constructions vary in price.

Style and options

Carriage house designs, windows, decorative hardware and finishes add to the door.

Opener

Reusing your opener or adding a new one changes the total.

Site conditions

Framing repairs, low headroom or an unusual old door to remove can add work.

The in-home estimate is free, and we walk you through the options before you decide anything.

Garage Door Installation FAQ

How long does a garage door installation take?

Installation time depends on the type of door, opener system, and site conditions. Insulated doors, custom sizes, and commercial garage doors may require additional setup time. We’ll give you a clear time estimate before any work begins.

Do you take away the old door?

Yes. Removing the old door, track and hardware and taking them away is part of the installation, so you are not left with anything to dispose of.

What does R-value mean on a garage door?

R-value describes how well a door resists heat passing through it: the higher the number, the better it insulates. We help you choose a level that matches how you use the garage.

Do you offer custom garage doors?

Yes. Custom options are available, including carriage house designs, window inserts, decorative hardware and wood-grain finishes.

Do you install commercial garage doors?

Yes. We install sectional overhead and rolling steel doors for commercial properties. See commercial garage doors.
